Calling on the Government of Swaziland to enact the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Bill (SODV Bill).
For over a decade, FLAS and its partners have been calling on the Government of Swaziland to enact the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Bill (SODV Bill). This week, civil society has been at the Parliament, speaking to Senators about the urgent need to enact the Bill.So what is it and why is it so important? Well, at present, rates of gender-based violence are alarmingly high: 1 in 3 girls is the victim of sexual violence before the age of 18. What's more, perpetrators continue to commit these terrible acts without facing any consequences. The enactment of SODV would help address these issues. Once made into law, the SODV would strengthen laws that protect society's most vulnerable, including women and children; end impunity for perpetrators; and contribute towards creating a Swaziland where all people are able to live free from the scourge of violence.Listen up to our Partner Tom Churchyard from Kwakha Indvodza speak about why the SODV matters to him and his organisation!Posted by Youth Action Movement - Eswatini on Tuesday, 27 February 2018
